Professional Summary

I am an instructional designer and enthusiastic educator that has implemented instructional design principles and theories into her daily practices for over a decade.

I have a well-rounded background in teaching and refined talents in creative course design and evaluation. Additionally, I am a proven expert in communication and a consistent collaborator. I have worked as an instructional designer, creating medical education for hybrid accelerated nursing programs since 2019. My previous roles as an academic specialist at the Jacobs School of Music have strengthened my abilities in decision-making and collaboration, including a focused attention to detail and accuracy.

The knowledge I have gained while earning an Ed.D. in Instructional Systems Technology, along with 10 years of work experience in higher education, have contributed to my success as an instructional designer. I have designed both in-person and online courses for higher education programs. My design experience extends beyond the context of adult education. I am proud to have designed curriculum for the Erskine Personal Impact Curriculum (EPIC), a k-12 curriculum focused on teaching the themes of inclusion, perseverance, and kindness. During my time at Indiana University, I worked on countless impactful projects that fortified my ability to analyze, design, implement, and evaluate learning interventions, administrative processes, institutions, and technology. I have studied Human-Computer Interaction, Social Media Strategies, Human Cognition, Instructional Design and Development, and Human Resources and Development.

My research interests are focused on improving learner motivation and actual learning through effective promotion of social presence in the instructional environment. In pursuit of advancing the knowledge on this topic, I have incorporated diverse technologies and instructional interventions that facilitate connectedness and community building within the group of learners I have had the honor to teach. I have presented numerous times on these topics to broaden the awareness of strategic implementation of social media for the purpose of increasing actual learning as well as learner motivation and interest.

Interests

Outside of instructional design, I am a runner and guitarist. I run almost every day! I also enjoy sewing and making outfits I can't find in the store yet...but lately the bulk of my sewing time is spent mending my puppy's toys back together after she rips them apart!

I read a lot too. While my first choice is a Cormac McCarthy book, professionally, I am interested in the current research and practices that incorporate social presence to improve learner motivation and actual learning. I also enjoy sharpening my skills and staying up to date on teaching and design news with Educational Technology Magazine, Edutopia, the Journal of Educational Technology & Society, and many other periodicals that feature articles which help me develop as a designer.
